Story:
Verner Panton maintained close contacts with many of the most important designers of his time. Poul Henningsen taught him at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen. After graduating, Verner Panton worked for Denmark's most important architect, Arne Jacobsen.
Panton was also friends with the design craftsman Hans Wegner. Wegner became known for the classic designs of his teak chairs, but Verner Panton's passion lay more in experimenting with plastic and other 'new' materials.
Meeting Poul Henningsen at the Royal Academy of Art was crucial for Panton's interest in product design. In 1950, Panton married Henningsen's stepdaughter, Tove Kemp. However, the two separated shortly afterwards.
Arne Jacobsen was also always an important collaboration partner for Panton; among other things, they designed the famous 'Ant' chair together.
After Panton became very well known as a visionary designer, he was able to devote most of his time to his experimental work. Verner Panton developed the first inflatable piece of furniture made from transparent plastic film.
